  1. Hi! This is an amazing theme guys! I have one problem that I hope you guys can help me out with. Your demo site loads the background image almost instantly. On my blog however it takes up to 7 seconds on a reasonably sized image and 3 seconds on a very low quality image. All my content loads instantly like pictures, videos, etc. but I cannot get the background image to catch up. Any pointers? I am on digitalocean and its seems fast.
    Thanks in advance!

  5. Hi, i’ve purchased your theme thinking i can have the html files of your theme embedded, but in fact no. I did not know ghost was a blogging hosting, but just a name. is it possible to ‘extract’ from what i’ve purchased an html version of it ?
    many thanks

  6. Hi there!

I understand, if that case feel free to review the source files. You can see the dynamic ghost part is usually wrapped around with:

    {{ ..... }}

If you replace that with a static content you can then simply rename the ghost files to .html

There are some other little details, but if you know your way around code to some degree it should be fairly manageable to convert it.

    Thanks and cheers!

  7. Hi, thanks for your feedback. The thing is, i’m purchasing pre-made templates on your site to be productive, and avoid loosing time and extra money. I will not take time to dig into it to make it ‘html like’, i wish to cancel my purchase, and i wish to buy another one, cheaper and fitting my needs is that doable ? since i’ve made a mistake on my purchase and normally have a delay to cancel it… many thanks !

  8. Hi there!

Only Envato can issue refunds, authors do not have access to the refund system.

I know their policy is that if you didn’t download the files then they will surely refund you. But once you have downloaded it’s a little trickier because it’s a digital product that you can’t really “return”. It’s up to their discretion in the end.

  9. Hi there,
    Great template!!
I bought it but was not aware that it is for ghost software.
I saw another question about it in which you said change all the ghost code to static code. I did that but the background doesn’t load as well as the raindrops. Could you please take a quick look at: http://www.artica04.nl/daan/ and give some pointers?

    thanks

  10. Hi there!

You have bad link to jquery script and code parts of js files are missing. But this does not look like only one problem.

Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token < rainyday.js:1
Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token <= init_rainyday.js:1
Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token < init_music.js:1

There is also WP Rain version.

  11. hey: I just bought the theme, pretty disappointed by the documentation. Just so other people know: the entire documentation document is 250 words long, but 150 of those are really basic “how to upload a theme to your ghost blog” kinda stuff. So, there’s less than 100 words about the theme itself. I’m really not sure how that counts as “well documented” (as claimed in the sidebar here on the themeforest page)

Features that are not exclusive to RAIN are documented in the official WordPress Codex here http://codex.wordpress.org/

  13. 1) I’m talking about the ghost version, not wordpress—no disrespect but I very much feel like you’re copy-and-pasting rote help answers.

    2) I know how to use Ghost—what you’ve failed to document is the theme itself. I really think a theme that calls itself “well documented” should have a useful, usable readme talking the user through the features that that theme has. Is that too much to ask?

    3) One of my (many) questions about this theme: how do I create a menu to static pages on the top left hand side? There is a blog logo that sends me back to the homepage but I want to build a menu that links to basic static pages like “about”

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi there!

    1) I am sorry about the confusion. We have a lot of products and support questions and sometimes it happens (rarely) that we switch product platform mentally in our heads.

    2) To be honest, most Ghost themes, including this one, do not have a lot of extra features so there really isn’t much to document. I have just checked the Documentation and all the stuff that will get you started is there. For all the general Ghost stuff you could reference the official Ghost docs here: http://docs.ghost.org/ (there are also User Docs)

    3) There isn’t a possibility of adding a classic menu to the top. Only what you see on the Live Preview is available. You could only create this on your own by modifying the source.

  15. Hey there,

So, I’m (still) having problems doing very basic things with your theme – for example, when I edit screen.css (and screen.scss) to make very basic changes to the appearance of my site the changes don’t seem to go through; when I upload the new versions nothing on my site looks different. This is the kind of thing where claiming even MINIMAL documentation should mean that you’ve documented how to do this kind of stuff; that is why your claim that ” I have just checked the Documentation and all the stuff that will get you started is there” is not even a little bit true. Please create some proper documentation for this theme or I will need to take this further with ThemeForest; your theme is not Well Documented by any stretch of the imagination, so I do not feel that I got what I paid for.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Update: I can literally delete the screen.css and screen.scss files and this seems to have no impact whatsoever on how my site gets displayed. How is that even possible? Where are you drawing the stylesheet from – some cached version that I can never overwrite?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi there!

    The css is here: /assets/css/screen.css

(don’t use .scss if you don’t know anything about SASS/SCSS pre-processors, just use .css)

But if you can delete the screen.css file from the above directory path and nothing happens then please let me know your site URL and I will be happy to look into it because that’s not normal in most cases.

  20. Ok, I’ve looked into it and this seems to be your problem: https://ghost.org/forum/themes/16185-css-not-updating-how-to-flush-css-cache-on-ghost-pro/

You need to use Ghost’s asset helper – basically, on line 17 of default.hbs you need to replace your hardcoded version:
    <link rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” href=”/assets/css/screen.css” />

    with this:

    <link rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” href=”{{asset ‘css/screen.css’}}” />

The problem more generally, I suspect, is that you guys seem to have made a wordpress theme and then half-heartedly copied it to Ghost without really understanding Ghost (cf: you’re still talking about my “WP login” – check out the start of this comment thread to see why that’s not funny).

I’d like some compensation from you guys for helping you out on this, because I don’t think there should be bugs this big in a $26 theme. Do you agree?

  21. Hi there!

Thank you for pointing this out, we are more of a WordPress developers, so Ghost development is not something we watch daily. I am saying this because I am not sure if this:

    <link rel=”stylesheet” type=”text/css” href=”{{asset ‘css/screen.css’}}” />

was available when we built RAIN for the first time back in the dawn of Ghost platform. But I will look into it, thanks again for pointing it out. Also to clarify, RAIN was made for Ghost first – then ported to WordPress due to frequent requests from our customers.

  22. Hello, i’ve purchased your theme and used on my site, but i have a problem.
I visit my site with chrome on mac pro, it will make my mac too hot.
If turn off the music and the rain drops it will be better.

    sorry for my poor english.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi there!

I’m sorry for any inconveniences, but the rain and music are realised through external 3rd party scripts. Also this is common on macs, for example revolution slider could also cause this behaviour.

  26. Nice theme. I would like to translate some elements in my language. How can I do that ? I can’t find the strings in source files.

Another point : the logo does not resize in the header bar and takes too much space. If I reduce it myself, it is too tiny on the home page, Any solution ?

    Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hi there!

The logo should resize the header bar by default, I just tested it on our demo and it works out of the box.

Can you send me your website URL using the private ticket tool from my signature below? Please paste the ticket ID back into this conversation.

Regarding the language, it’s more of a question for the ghost.org community forums or Google because it’s not theme related. I found some information here for example http://docs.ghost.org/translations/

  30. Any idea when this theme will be updated to support the new features in Ghost 0.5 and 0.6?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi there!

We plan to release a different Ghost theme soon (weeks) which will require us to study these new Ghost updates. Once we know how it all works we might as well jump back on RAIN and give it a quick update with the new stuff we learned.

Are there any new Ghost features in particular you would like to see in RAIN?

  32. Thanks! The changes that would be nice to see:
    - Tags at the end of the posts
    - An easier way to find the profile page (add the option of another button next to the menu? still thinking on the best way here)
    - When clicking in the menu use now the new navigation in ghost to add links apart from the last posts.
    - Integrate Disqus comments after the share buttons on each post.

Thanks for the help. Love your theme!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi there!

Thanks for your feedback. How would one go around integrating Disqus? Does Ghost already support adding a custom Theme Options panel where I can add fields for signing into your own Disqus? Because otherwise you would need to edit the source files, probably some kind of a config file…

No but we might do a bit of testing in October because we plan to release a new Ghost theme but we have yet to learn the new things in Ghost 0.7. Once we do that we should revisit RAIN to update it with our new knowledge

    Thanks and cheers!

  36. Thanks for the prompt response!! FYI, what I am looking for is the opposite of “minimal”, which I think of as the “Dick and Jane School of Design”. One way to go is a 18th-19th century manuscript-like look. Just one idea. I’m sure you can do better. Remember that word of advice that Steve gave the artists? “Texture”. I’d love that. Something different. Maybe its not the Rain theme but another of yours (Actually, I don’t want the sound effects or animation). But something that gets us out of the hell of Flatland and stimulates the imagination.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hi there!

Thanks for your feedback but I think the days of Skeuomorphism are behind us and won’t come back any time soon. Flatland is here to stay whether we like it or not. Designing webpages today feels like designing a system rather than a creative page. Just because its a system or a minimal design it doesn’t necessarily mean its not creative in it’s own way – you just need to look closer because it’s not as in-your-face as it used to be or sometimes it’s overcoming an otherwise invisible restriction that is hard to appreciate to the uninitiated eye.

  38. Well, I know we live in the corporate state and Sir Jony Ive is the leading “artist”. He has the Leni Reifenstahl had in the 3rd Reich. But there will always be dissent. That’s where art comes in (BTW, it is through the work of Sir Jony Ive that I first gained an appreciation of the art of Jackson Pollack)...I also need to learn more about theming for Ghost and hope to learn enough to add touches to whatever I pick….I agree that people actually are being creative under the thumb of Flatland—my only point is that it is not what I want and would never purchase anything like that…and Rain is quite skeuomorphic enough for me! You’ve got a A/V simulation of rain in the middle of a computer screen!! My only problem is that it isn’t updated for the current rev of Ghost! Just a narrowly technical problem, not artistic. That’s what I mean…important role of the artist is to express dissent in creative ways. That’s what I’m looking for in a theme…Escape From Flatland!!

  39. Thank you!! I hope to revisit you when this happens.
